The CLP Missions Committee Liaison to Open Arms Home for Children is Charlotte Montanus.
Open Arms Home for Children was founded by Bob and Sallie Solis of Litchfield Park, Arizona. After taking a family mission trip to South Africa in 2005, the Solis family felt called to do something about the plight of children orphaned by AIDS in South Africa.
Open Arms Home for Children exists for one reason: to provide a loving residential environment that serves the emotional, physical, and developmental needs of orphaned, abandoned, and disadvantaged children in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
In 2006, The Mission Committee at The Church at Litchfield Park (CLP) selected Open Arms to be one of the international charities for the church to support. CLP supports Open Arms through a percentage of its budget, through donations from Vacation Bible School for items such as shoes, books, toiletries, etc., and through Mission Camp by creating items such as friendship bracelets, etc.
Founder Bob Solis says, “Open Arms tries to accomplish a lot in the lives of children by providing everything a child needs: shelter, love, food, health care, education, sports, arts, music, and a spiritual grounding. None of these things would make much of a difference if the children didn’t feel joy or happiness in their lives. Despite the huge obstacles our children have faced, your support allows them to take on the world not with sorrow but with joy.”
